Description: Using Gudrun’s latest book, Shetland Shades: Stories In Wool, as a reference, students will choose their own colorplay adventure. From striping to mosaic knitting to Fair Isle, there are so many ways to explore the way colors interact with each other! You’ll make swatches in class choosing from six different colorplay options. Make one or all six! We’ll also talk about the special properties of Shetland wool and test out some techniques that it’s particularly suited for.
Gudrun Johnston is a celebrated designer known for her modern yet timeless knitwear, beautifully rooted in her Shetland heritage. Her thoughtful colorwork, elegant constructions, and deep understanding of traditional techniques have made her designs beloved by knitters around the world. She frequently returns to Shetland where she loves spending time with her family in the Westside. In addition to Grand Shetland Adventure Knits, she is the author of The Shetland Trader Books One, Two and Three, and Knit With Me. Her newest book, Shetland Shades: Stories in Wool, was published with Laine on September 24, 2026.
Prerequisites: Basic knitting skills, including working in the round. Previous experience with stranded knitting is helpful, but not required.

- US4 or US3 24” circular needle
- You’ll be choosing and purchasing 5 or 6 balls of Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift during the class. Our normal class discount (10% off) will apply.
