Spinning with Jillian Moreno: Hand Carding — Basics and Beyond

Teacher: Jillian Moreno

Cost: $125

When: Sunday, July 19, 9:00am–12:00pm

Description: Curious about carding? Hand cards are usually the first fiber preparation tool that spinners use, and they’re more versatile than you might think! In this class we’ll learn the basics of hand carding with different fibers and blends. We’ll card both washed fleece and commercially prepared fiber. We’ll also experiment with how to roll fiber off your hand cards, and why you may not want to. And of course we’ll play with color! There will be heathers, tweeds, stripes, and more! This relaxed class will start you on a path to preparing your own fiber for spinning.

Prerequisites: This class is suitable for a beginning hard carder, but more experienced spinners will learn things too.

Homework: None

Min/max number of participants: 4/12

  • Any other spinning tools you like to use
  • $25 materials fee, payable to Jillian (cash, check or Venmo/Paypal)

Combining technical and intuitive approaches to spinning, Jillian’s students gain confidence as well as solid skills to build any yarn they can dream of.
