Mitten Workshop
Teacher: Karen Lucas
Cost: $125
When: Wednesdays, January 8, 15 & 22, 6:00–8:00pm
Description: Sure, mittens are cozy and fun to wear, and they make great gifts. But . . . drumroll . . . they also offer a great way to level up your knitting! You heard it here first! This class will cover knitting in the round with double-pointed needles, creating a mitten’s gusset and thumb, and grafting. You’ll also have the option to embroider a motif on your mitten using duplicate stitch. Go, you!!
Prerequisites: This class is for adventurous beginners and beyond. You should be comfortable casting on and working knit and purl stitches. Previous experience with small-diameter knitting (e.g., the top of a hat) is helpful but not required.
Homework: None
Min/max number of participants: 5/8
Materials to bring along:
- 1 skein worsted weight yarn, purchased from Spun (we suggest Berroco Ultra Alpaca)
- Size US3 double-pointed needles (Note: these needles are smaller than you would typically use with worsted weight yarn; this creates a dense, cozy fabric to keep your hands warm even in the worst weather!)
- Spare yarn and needles (any size) for practicing in class
- 2 ring-style stitch markers
- Scissors or snips
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- A printed or digital copy of “Learn to Knit Mittens” by Staci Perry, available to purchase and download here
