Elizabeth Smith’s Cruel Summer is a breezy, dolman-sleeve layering cardi knit up in Berroco’s gorgeous Modern Linen yarn, perfect for throwing on over a tank or tee, even on steamy hot summer days! It’s knit seamlessly from the bottom-up and features a lace mesh stitch pattern along the hem and front bands. Elizabeth Smith is one of Spun’s favorite designers both for the simple elegance of her designs and for her clear patterns which focus on making sure that you enjoy the process of knitting as much as the product.
Cruel Summer is available in seven sizes and is designed to be worn with 3-5 inches of positive ease at the hem and 8-15 inches of positive ease at the chest. The designer recommends picking a size that provides you with positive ease at both the hem and at the chest. The sizes listed below correspond to the actual measurement of the finished garment.

Each kit includes sufficient Modern Linen (100% linen) for the size specified in the color of your choice along with the pattern. We will purchase a copy of Cruel Summer for you via Ravelry, so you will automatically receive both a printed copy and an emailed PDF. If you would also like to have this pattern in your Ravelry library, please note your Ravelry ID (not your password!) in the "Notes" field in your cart!
Please note that this kit does not include needles. The pattern calls for US6 32” needles, however our sample was knit on US4 32” needles to get gauge with Modern Linen (or size needed to achieve gauge.) You will also need an additional gauge needle of any length for three-needle bind off. If you don't already have the appropriate needles at home, you can shop Spun's selection of circular needles here.
If you'd like to make your kit a gift (for yourself or someone else), or if you just wish to keep your new project tidy and organized, add the Spun Rope Handle Bag with Pin to your order and we will package your purchase accordingly!
