Curious about Colorwork: Intro to Stranded Knitting

Teacher: Mary Brandau

Cost: $50

When: Sunday, January 19, 2:30–4:30pm

Description: Stranded knitting! You’ve admired it--all those Fair Isle sweaters!--and maybe been mystified by it, but now let’s consider that it might be time for you to give it a try. Let’s start with a definition: Stranded knitting is the art of creating patterns by using two or more colors in a single row, with the unused color carried along the back of the work. Though mastery of stranded knitting takes time, it’s not as hard as it looks. This one-session class will teach you the basics, including reading charts, resolving tension issues, and color dominance, all while guiding you through the process of making a simple (and cute!) two-color headband. Under Mary’s expert guidance, you’ll come away with a solid understanding of how this technique achieves such beautiful results.

Prerequisites: Familiarity with casting on, knitting and purling in the round.

Homework: With main color yarn and smaller needle, cast on 108 sts. Place marker and join to work in the round, being careful not to twist sts. Work 2x2 rib (k2, p2) for 1”/2.5cm.

Min/max number of participants: 4/8
