On Mothers Day, the Spun family headed up Pontiac Trail and over to Dixboro to meet the folks behind Waymeet Homestead. It was our first Spun field trip, and it was amazing! The folks at Waymeet welcomed us with treats, animals, and kindness, giving us an inspiring glimpse of a group composed of people from all over who bring their knowledge, passion, insights, and strengths to build a community centered on sustainability, sharing, and sanctuary. We were, predictably, most excited to meet Waymeet's heritage yaks (although the chickens also pulled quite an audience). Yaks! Justin and crew are currently raising three of these beauties: environmentally friendly (and just plain friendly) animals that yield notoriously soft and warm fiber while consuming only a third as much as food as cattle. Did we pet the yaks? We did. Did we comb them? We did!
We heartily suggest that you follow Waymeet on Instagram (@waymeet.homestead) and check out their GoFundMe page (a third of the food of cattle is still a lot of food). If you're interested in meeting the Waymeet crew, and maybe setting up a tour for your own group, let us know (info@spunannarbor.com), and we'll put you in touch with Justin.
