Advanced Knitting Skills Workshop: All About Steeks

Teacher: Mary Brandau

Cost: $50

When: Tuesday, June 18, 6:00–8:00pm

Description: Eek! It’s a steek! Steeking is a technique that allows you to create a flat piece of stranded colorwork by working it in the round and then cutting it up the center. While the idea of taking scissors to your knitting may seem terrifying at first, this traditional method is actually very secure, and so much more efficient than working back and forth. For this hands-on workshop, you’ll make a colorwork swatch ahead of time, and master knitter Mary Brandau will guide you as you cut into it and practice different methods of reinforcing the opening. If you’ve always wanted to knit a stranded colorwork cardigan, or if you’re simply curious about this time-honored technique, this is the class for you!

Prerequisites: Participants should be able to make a stranded colorwork swatch in the round, using a chart.

Homework: You will need to make a stranded colorwork swatch in the round prior to class. When you register you will receive a link to download detailed instructions.

Min/max number of participants: 4/10
