Stranded Colorwork: “Peanut Vest”

Teacher: Mary Brandau

Cost: $125

When: Tuesdays, October 8, 15 & 22, 6:00–8:00pm

Description: Are you interested in stranded colorwork? Do you want to improve your neckband pick-up skills? Join Mary Brandau as we work through Tin Can Knits’ adorable Peanut Vest and explore various knitting techniques and concepts, including: working in the round without a jog, creating tidy 1x1 ribbing, chart reading, maintaining color dominance and catching floats, gauge issues, mirrored neckline shaping, calculating your pick-up ratio, mitered vs. overlapping neckbands, shoulder join methods, weaving in ends, and blocking. Think of this baby vest as both a small swatch with lots of knitting technique instruction and a great gift for your next baby shower!

Prerequisites: Participants should be comfortable with the knitting basics: casting on, knit and purl stitches, joining in the round, 1x1 rib, basic decreases (ssk and k2tog) and binding off. Previous experience with stranded knitting is helpful but not required.

Homework: Prior to class, please work the ribbing and beginning of the body section as described in the pattern. We will begin class with the setup round (placing markers to define chart placement).

Min/max number of participants: 4/8
