Stocking Techniques

Description: Start a new tradition this holiday season with handknit stockings! Spun is excited to welcome designer Melynda Bernardi to offer this special holiday class that will teach you the essential techniques you need to get started knitting stockings. You’ll learn about stocking construction, including different heel and toe options, and Melynda will also cover reading a colorwork chart, duplicate stitch, and stranded knitting. Get ready to create gifts that loved ones will treasure for years to come!
Prerequisites: Participants should be familiar with the following: the long-tail cast-on, knitting in the round (using double-points or magic loop), and purling.
Homework: None
Min/max number of participants: 5/8
Materials to bring along:
- Worsted weight yarn purchased from Spun in three colors (we recommend Harrisville Designs Highland or Berroco Lanas, 1 skein of each color)
- Size US5 double-point needles (set of five) OR 40” size US5 circular needle (if you prefer magic loop)
- Darning or tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Stitch markers
