Mosaic Colorwork Hat: “Pressed Flowers” by Amy Christoffers

Teacher: Karen Lucas

Cost: $85

When: Wednesdays, March 27 & April 10, 3:00–5:00pm

Description: So, what is this “mosaic” knitting thing? Are you somehow crafting a decorative picture frame or holder for your cotton swabs. . . . out of yarn?? No! Mosaic knitting is a super fun and simple technique that allows you to create beautiful colorwork patterns simply by slipping stitches. Unlike in stranded colorwork, you only ever work with one strand at a time–no floats, no carrying along a second strand! If you’re curious about mosaic knitting, or if you just want to make a very cute hat with expert support in good company, this class offers a quick and charming introduction to the method.

Prerequisites: Participants should be comfortable with knitting in the round and small diameter knitting (dpns or magic loop).

Homework: You will need to start your hat prior to class. With smaller needle and main color yarn, cast on 128 stitches and join to work in the round. Work 1x1 rib (k1, p1) for 25 rounds. Still using main color, change to larger needles and knit 1 round, then purl 1 round.

Min/max number of participants: 4/8
