Classic Cuff-Down Socks

Teacher: Rachel Leggett

Cost: $120

When: Mondays, September 12, 19 & 26, 6:00–8:00pm

Description: Oh, all that sock yarn is pretty! Ready to move some of it from Spun’s sock wall to your feet? Learn the basics of classic, cuff-down sock construction with Rachel! You’ll be making socks tailored precisely to your foot size, measuring your feet and using Rachel’s sock generator formula so that you know how many stitches to cast on. Please note that you’ll need to do a substantial amount of homework ahead of time so that you can work the heel flap and turn during the first week’s class. Over the next two classes, Rachel will walk you through picking up stitches, working your gusset, and tidying up your toe with kitchener stitch. You’ll leave with the skills you need to surround yourself with handmade socks: on your feet, on your loved ones’ feet, and on your needles.

Prerequisites: Participants should be familiar with the following: the long-tail cast-on, knitting, purling, knitting in the round (using double-points or magic loop), and binding off.

Homework: Significant! Participants must swatch in the round for gauge before the first class meeting, then cast on their sock and knit the cuff and leg. Students will receive detailed instructions as soon as they register for class.

Min/max number of participants: 3/7
