CLASS: Classic Cardigan — February 2024
- There is 1 left in stock
Teacher: Carol Ullmann
When: Mondays, February 12, 26, March 18 & April 1, 3:00–5:00pm
Description: Ready to knit your first sweater? Carol will be your guide as you embark on knitting the Tin Can Knits Classic Cardigan, which is available in a wide range of sizes. In this class you'll learn how to measure gauge and choose the right size to make, how to keep track of raglan increases, how to get your sleeves started and keep track of their decreases, how to knit a good-looking button band, and how to knit pockets, if you want pockets! Class meetings are paced to allow ample knitting time for each step.
Prerequisites: Participants should be confident in basic knitting skills, including casting on, knitting, purling, and binding off.
Homework: You will need to make a swatch prior to class. CO 32 sts w/larger needle and knit a gauge swatch (use garter on edges to help it lay flat). If you think you need a smaller or larger needle, feel free to purl a dividing line and try another needle. Wash your gauge swatch the way you will wash your sweater--hand or gentle machine wash, lay flat to dry. Bring washed gauge swatch to the first class.
Min/max number of participants: 4/8
Materials to bring along:
- 750–2400 yards worsted weight yarn, purchased from Spun (we suggest Berroco Ultra Wool)
- US6 & US8 circular needles (or size needed to achieve gauge, see homework), 32” or longer
- a copy, printed or digital, of “Classic Cardigan” by Tin Can Knits (purchase and download here)
- darning needle
- stitch markers
